Modernizing Healthcare Data Infrastructure
A healthcare organization sought to modernize its data infrastructure to support rapid business growth, improve data governance, and enable advanced analytics across commercial and Medicare populations. The initiative focused on consolidating fragmented data sources, strengthening data quality, and establishing a scalable foundation for future AI initiatives.
Technology: Databricks Lakehouse, Medallion Architecture, TUVA, Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI), API Integration
Scope: Healthcare Data Platform Modernization & AI Readiness
The Challenge
The client’s existing data platform had not kept pace with organizational growth, resulting in technical debt, fragmented data sources, and limited visibility into patient and provider information. A small engineering team faced a significant backlog while managing a large-scale vendor migration and expansion into the private payer market.
The organization needed to consolidate data from multiple healthcare systems into a unified platform, establish trusted patient and provider records, and improve data quality and governance. These improvements were essential to supporting continued growth, streamlining provider integrations, and enabling future AI and advanced analytics initiatives.
The Solution
York Solutions partnered with the client to design and implement a modern healthcare data platform using Databricks Lakehouse architecture.
The solution introduced a scalable data foundation built on Medallion Architecture, organizing data into Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers to support reliable, governed, and auditable data pipelines.
York established enterprise master data management capabilities for patients, providers, payers, and eligibility using TUVA and probabilistic patient matching. This approach created trusted records across disparate healthcare systems and improved data consistency.
The engagement also included migrating approximately 30 provider practices to a modern API integration platform and consolidating structured and unstructured healthcare data from multiple clinical systems.
To support long-term business objectives, York developed data pipelines designed to enable risk adjustment, advanced analytics, AI-driven clinical insights, and provider-facing applications.
The Results & Impact
The engagement established a modern, scalable healthcare data foundation designed to support organizational growth, improve operational efficiency, and enable advanced analytics and AI initiatives.
- Modernized Data Infrastructure: Implemented a scalable Databricks Lakehouse architecture to support evolving business and data requirements.
- Improved Data Quality & Governance: Established standardized master data and patient identity management to create more consistent, reliable information across systems.
- Streamlined Provider Integration: Modernized healthcare data ingestion and migrated approximately 30 provider practices to a unified API platform.
- Enhanced Analytics & AI Readiness: Established trusted data pipelines to support risk adjustment, quality reporting, and future AI-driven clinical insights.
- Greater Operational Efficiency: Reduced reliance on fragmented data processes through automated ingestion, standardized data models, and governed pipelines.
- Long-Term Scalability: Created a flexible data foundation capable of supporting continued growth and evolving value-based care initiatives.
By modernizing the client’s healthcare data infrastructure, York Solutions helped establish a more connected, reliable, and scalable environment, positioning the organization to improve data-driven decision-making and expand its use of advanced analytics and AI.
